Weekend Vibes

So I kind of went crazy with buying hot pink tops last week - I mean I couldn't help myself! I love anything bright and especially for summer.

I purchased this cute hot pink sleeveless embroidered top along with another more formal short sleeve top from Winners, which I will be showing off in my upcoming posts. It was my weekend look for the beautiful weather we've been having in Vancouver!

I paired this look with mint earrings, a delicate floral inspired gold necklace, a textured gold bracelet, and a black quilted cross-body bag, which I wore in my leather leggings post.

This is my first time purchasing anything from Charming Charlie, as it is new to Canada. I was quite overwhelmed with the amount of items they have, but I have to say I really like how they group jewelry by colour - Makes it much easier to find what you need. Will definitely be going back.

I actually had a really weird encounter last weekend while taking these photos that made me a bit uncomfortable. I found another cool spot that I wanted to take photos at since it wasn't very busy and the building only had a few cars in the parking lot.

I don't know about any of you, but I'm just not comfortable when many people are around yet. I like quiet spots and although I found some really cool locations, it's way too crowded for me right now, as people usually stare. The building that I was taking photos at currently only has two businesses occupying the space, so I thought it would be perfect since it wasn't overly crowded.

Shortly after taking these photos a lady pulls up and just stares at me when getting out of her car, I really didn't think anything of it. She comes over and says "excuse me, what are you doing?" (in a rude tone). I was more so shocked and so, I say "I'm taking photos for a school project," just so I didn't have to explain myself. She replies with "well, did you ask the owner?" so I say, "sorry but who are you?" She says, "I'm the owners wife". I say "well hmm ok, well no, but would you like me to leave?." All she says is "no, that's fine" and walks away. This is a prime example as to why I've always felt a bit uneasy about taking photos when people are around.

Have any of you experienced a similar situation like this before? I found it very odd as I was just minding my own business and not causing any harm.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I hope you all have a great weekend!

  2. I love bright colors for summer too! I love your top and shorts :)

I really understand how you feel about that encounter. The part I don't like about photo shoots is having people around. They always stare at me and I feel really uncomfortable. I wish people minded their own business and left the rest alone... If I want to take pics in a restaurant or shop either I try to be really discrete or I ask for permission but I always get really nervous about it. I hope that with time I'll get used to it and not care anymore.

    1. Thank you Cristina!

I'm glad you can somewhat relate! When I first started I would only do photo shoots in my backyard and eventually found some spots that were a little bit more low key. I guess it's really more of something you get use to over-time. I do feel that people should really mind their own business, unless of course it's interfering what they are doing. Thanks for sharing - really appreciate it.

  4. You're so photogenic! I can understand why you've brought an influx of hot pink top into your wardrobe, I tend to do the same when the sun is shining! Having said that, the sun is most definitely not shining today in England haha! With regard to the lady questioning you, that has to be the most bizarre thing ever.. although you can brush off her words knowing that you got fantastic shots out of standing by her husband's place - this post is great (and more than worth an awkward conversation haha) :)

    1. Thank you Gabrielle! You're always so kind xoxo. Ah well I think I spoke too soon as this week hasn't been the best either with the weather. Little bit of rain and a lot more chilly than usual.

Well then I'm really glad I stayed there and took more photos!:-) I'm sure I will face many more along the way. Have a great week Gabrielle!

  5. Hot pink looks wonderful on you, and I love the way you styled it -- so summer ready! I myself tend to shy away from crowds and public places when taking photos and would rather do it in the comfort of my own home or around people I know. How odd that that lady questioned you and walked away without further explanation; at least attempt to be friendly, I say! Whatever the case, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  6. I really love this color of hot pink on you! You look fabulous in it! These white lace shorts are adorable paired with it as well. Looking so summer today, great outfit! I don't know about that situation, it hasn't happened to me, but I usually take pics in more crowded public places. Maybe she was just making sure you weren't his mistress lol. What would you think if there was a pretty girl taking pictures in front of your husband's building? You would probably be somewhat curious. It's also really fun to rent studios to do some shoots. That way you will have the place completely to yourself! Hope you have a great weekend:)

  10. Ela this is a gorgeous look!

On another note, I understand the discomfort of having pictures taken of you for the blog. To be honest, I've been thinking of this a lot lately because I've noticed myself posting more recipes (which I DO love) and other posts that do not require a pic of me because of the discomfort. It's an area I need to grow in my own blog, and you certainly did nothing wrong.

I think a lot of time when people react negatively to you in a situation like this it is because of them, and not because of you. Something bad could have happened that month, week or day in their lives and they are projecting it on you. In other words, don't let it bring you down! You are a beautiful girl, and you take lovely photos. Keep at it Ela!

    1. Thank you Elise, it really means a lot!

It's good to hear that you can also relate. I'm sure many people when they first start have no problem taking pictures when people are around and you know what that is so awesome! I'm just not there yet and you know what it's okay if you're not either. Like many people said in the comments, it will get easier over time.

      Have a great week!

  12. You look stunning in bright pink. That jewelry is really nice, too. I think it makes the outfit even more elegant and chic:)

I can totally understand how you felt about that lady. I think she was just annoyed by how beautiful you are. Personally, I wasn't in a situation like that (maybe not yet), but most of the time people look at us and probably wonder why we take so many pictures at the same place:) It is so uncomfortable for me. But I think I now pay less attention to that than at the beginning.

    1. Hahah thank you Yulia! You're so sweet all the time:-).

And you know what you are right, I think it is a matter of doing it enough times to become even more comfortable with taking photos in public with so many different positions haha. Sometimes it gets awkward because I'm by myself snapping a bunch of photos - I think it will get better over-time, like you said! Thanks so much for stopping by. Enjoy your week

  13. You look gorgeous in bright colors!

Sorry you ran into such an unpleasant individual. Don't let her discourage you from taking pictures in public, babe. I used to be iffy taking pictures in front of others too but I've learned to not mind them b/c I'm never going to see them again :)

  14. I can definitely relate to you! It is already hard enough to take photos out in public, and for someone to make a statement like that just makes it more uncomfortable. Just brush it off! It gets easier, trust me! P.S. love your shorts!

  19. You're always so beautiful in all of your posts! I love the hot pink top and how your paired it with the white shorts and jewelry from Charmin Charlie. They're really a fantastic store and the color coding always helps. Yes! Nothing confrontational like that has happened with me, but people stare or they'll honk their horn. Makes me so uncomfortable.
